What does Command K do on a Mackbook Pro?

I hope I have chosen the correct forum for my question. I just purchased a Macbook Pro and I want to use a Remote Desktop capability to remotely connect the Macbook Pro over the Web to my 3 Windows desktop machines at my business when i am out of town. Apple phone support told me that I could use Command K which I think means to connect to a remote server. When I hit Command K the Macbook makes a sound in the speakers but nothing happens or appears on the screen.

Can someone please help me or explain what Command K does and if this will let me do a remote desktop into my 3 Windows PC's?

First, the effect of most keyboard shortcuts depends on the application in which they're invoked. A fairly complete list of built-in shortcuts is here:

OS X keyboard shortcuts

The one you're asking about works only in the Finder, and it brings up a dialog for connecting to a network server. However, you can't connect to a Windows RDP server that way, because OS X has no built-in RDP client.

What you need is this:

Linc, thanks for your quick reply and for your great answer. I will look at CoRD, RDT for Mac. I really appreciate your help and the information.
