I can't turn off captions/subtitles when streaming netflix programs?

I am streaming Netflix content through ATV using HDMI cables through an Onkyo AV receiver to a Samsung pn60E350 (1080/600) and all is working fine except that picture displays closed captions/subtitles despite having set ATV closed captions feature to "off". The Samsung tv audio closed caption feature is greyed out and cannot be accessed.
