trying to get my imesssage set up with my phone number instead of my email. i restored my phone to factory settings and everything... can someone help me please?
iPhone 4S, iOS 6.0.1
Look at Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > Start New Conversations From
Does your phone number appear there? Can you check it?
If not, look at Settings > Phone > My Number

The phone number bit should already be filled out. He/she wants to ONLY send messages through her phone number.
When I go into messages > send & recieve ... all it says is "you can be reached by imessage at:" and it only lists my email.
I went into settings > phone > my number ... it shows.
so confused! all I wanted to do was restore settings so my backlighnt would go off when I'm not using my phone to save battery x.x
How is that linked in with iMessage -.-
my imessage was working wonderfully before I restarted my settings.. but when i restarted my settings, imessage stopped.
Look at Settings > Messages
Do you have iMessage "On"?
Under Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > You can be reached by iMessage at:
Do you not have another entry at the same level as "You can be reached by iMessage at" that says "Start new conversations from"?
I just turned it on, its asking for my apple id password so I do that.. but when I go to send & recieve all it shows me in "you can be reached by iMessage at" and then it says "Add an email..." under it. keep in mind I want iMessage hooked up to my phone not my email.
At the top of Settings > Messages > Send & Receive, you should see your Apple ID. If you click on that ID, one of the options should be "Change Location". Click on that. Does it show your correct region?
yes it does show my correct region
As this article suggests, it may help to log out of your Apple ID in Settings > Messages, then log in again to make sure your iPhone number is correctly associated with your Apple ID.
thanks for all your help! took a few tries but I got it to work.
Great! I guess you logged off your Apple ID and logged back on a couple of times, and that was what finally resolved the issue.
