Is removing battery in MacBook Pro 13" advisable?

Can I remove the battery form my MacBook Pro 13" when it is running on AC power? Isn't it charging and discharging decrease battery life? Is battery calibration needed when replacing?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Lastly, if the Mac should happen to be reasonably recent, the battery is not user replaceable and unplugging it will void whatever warranty may exist.

And if Kappy didn't scare you into not doing such a daft action, if the battery is not connected and power should fail while the drive is being written to, enough damage may occur that the entire contents be irretrievably lost.
