MacBook Pro Retina, Mid 2012 Memory Upgrade?

Hi guys!

I've told that RAM memory in my 15" 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7 MacBook Pro Retina Display is not upgradable, because it comes soldered to logic board.

However, in About This Mac in Memory tab it says that "Your Mac contains 2 memory slots, each of which accepts a 1600 MHz DDR3 memory module" and it even has a link of "Memory Upgrade Instructions" which forwards to Apple Support Homepage.

Also, in this link it says memory in onboard. http://support.apple.com/kb/SP653?viewlocale=en_US

My question is, is it or is it not upgradable??

Apple should be clearer about this.

Theoretically, any thing soldered can be un-soldered. However you need the professional tools and experience to accomplish such a task successfully. From a practical standpoint, the RAM in a Retina MBP is in there for life and certainly is not designed to be changed by the user or the technicians at a genius bar.

I am not aware of any instructions for upgrading RAM on a retina MBP.

Ciao.

I think the OP was referring to what is actually displayed on the screen when you select "About This Mac." It's essentially displaying what every other Mac does. While it probably won't happen, Apple should change what is shown on Retina models, perhaps adding a disclaimer that the RAM is not upgradable and removing the link to the Apple support page.

The specifications chart the OP linked to is correct in that it specifically says the Retina's RAM is "configurable" to 16 GB, not "upgradable."
