Quicken

I'm switching from Windows.
What functionality will I use if I use Quicken for MAC?

Can the backup file from Quicken Win just be loaded to Quicken MAC?

Quicken 2006 is their best yet, but still lacking compared to the PC from what I've read. I use '06 just for managing my checking & savings - so for me it is fine.

Now, as for transferring from the PC;

This link to Intuit support will help you.

I didn't loose any of the checkbook/savings data, but all of my scheduled transactions had to be entered again.

Also, there is the "look & feel"; as with most Mac applications that also exist in the PC world, you will find it "different".

I now prefer it to the PC counterpart.

I've used Quicken for Mac for quite a long time and have had no problems importing or reading QIF file from other users and I've imported from both PC and the Mac.

The only problem I've encountered on my Intel Mac is when printing a report. The Quicken crashes if I don't first choose Page Setup before printing. I'm not sure if it's a problem with the Quicken program or my Canon printer. So if you print a lot of reports as I do, especially custom reports, be forwarned. Always do a Page Setup first or you'll loose your report.

User uploaded fileI do not use Quicken - no money to manage - but I have heard good things about Moneydance.

They have a free trial so you can check it out and see if it meets your needs.

There is no MS Money for Mac.

Not to nitpick Christer, but your computer is a Mac, not a MAC. MAC refers to a Media Access Control address (MAC address) which is a unique identifier of networking equipment. It could cause some confusion to use the wrong term.

Just a friendly comment. Please don't take it the wrong way.

I think you have to look at what your needs are, what features it supports. And there are features like 401Ks that Windows version 2006 has that when you import to Mac... doesn't know how to handle.

So make a list and look at the features side by side. At least with Boot Camp or Parallels you have the option if you want of running XP version.

For me, I don't need what the Mac version lacks 😉

I am at the same crossroads as all of you, any
conclusions on this discussion. It sounds like the
reviews of Quicken '06 are quite horrendous...does
Microsoft Money come in Mac? I guess my question is
what is the best Mac software for home
finance.....Quicken or Money....or something else.

I do believe that Quicken is the best for the Mac. There is no MS Money for the Mac and all the other competitors are orders of magnitude behind Quicken. That being said, the Mac version of Quicken does lag pretty far behind the Windows version. I've used Quicken for the Mac since 2002 when I first switched to the Mac and have never had any issues with data file corruption or anything else.

I have Parallels and a Windows version of Quicken (that I don't use) because I'm in the camp with another poster when I say that even though Quicken for the Mac is lacking the features and polish of the Windows version... it works fine for my needs.

I put Quicken 2007 on my dual G4 couple of weeks ago. It replaced Quicken 2005 which I found rather shaky at times. The new version seems faster and more stable but my usage is mostly tracking accounts and a tiny bit of stock. I'm going to install it on my iMac 20" this morning. Understand it runs under Rosetta so we'll see how quick it is.

Quicken 2007 is not worth the money! It has never worked quite right, very quirky as another user put it! And now tonight, every time I try to print a check, it quits! I have tried several things but to no avail. I really don't like it. How do I uninstall Quicken from my Mac??? I couldn't find any info or uninstall feature for it which doesn't surprise me. I would like to uninstall the program and get rid of all the Quicken files!

Thanks & God Bless!
