Why FCP X keeps lagging every 12-14 minutes

Every 12-14 minutes, everything becomes laggy. I see all my processor go through the roof for 4-5 secondes, then cooldown then up to the roof for another 4-5 sec it's it's done for another 12-14 minutes.

I see that everytime it happens, this Process Group appears: BlurayPublishingServer.

It is really annoying to work in these conditions. I need to stop my work, sit back and wait for 15-20 sec every 12 minutes.... believe me, 12 minutes is not long at all and it gets so frustrating.

I'm starting to think that it's the *auto-save* of FCP X that is the cause of this since it's the only thing i can think of that happens on regular basis (every 15min it says)

What can be done to prevent this from happening?

I have a MacPro Mid2010 with 20Go RAM, running "OS 10.6.8" and "FCP X 10.0.7"

Final Cut Pro X, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

i'm working with Multicam Clips. (3 Cam) XDCAM footage, 1h to 1h30 long. I do absolutly nothing with Bluray.

The only *server* i have would be my Synology NAS but all the files i use in FCP X are directly on a Hard Drive in my machine (different from my OS Hard Drive) I use my NAS only to archive my projects once they are done.

I've seen in different threads that this BlurayPublishingServer would be part of Compressor. I tried looking for more info about where this process comes from but no sucess there. (i keep my Compressor closed while i work in FCP X.

**Edited**

I've added hardware to my Mac (a while ago), like a USB 3.0 controler card and a eSata card as well. Nothing to do with Bluray. I cant remember when this problem started. It's been following me for a long long time but now i'm really mad at this and that's why i decided to take some actions and try to find the cause of the problem.

Only when that process appears, the Final Cut Pro process peaks in the 2'000% CPU usage. The Bluray process barely uses 8% but it disapear right after few seconds and everything is back to normal.... for another 12-14 minutes O_o

I am connected to my NAS and it's not polling or doing anything to it. I even tried to turn off the NAS completely before because i though it was the problem, but i still have the same issue.

my project files are usually between 4 and 7 Mo

I keep all the data on one Drive then all the Events + Project folders on another Drive.

i used to have some Automator application running every 15min in loop, so i turned them off too. and nothinge changed.

Yah, by saying *auto-save*, i had in mind the 15min backup process.

in my 12-14 window frame, it gets closer to the 14min than 12min this is why i thought it might have been the 15min backup from FCP X, since this it when all the CPUs are going crazy for few secondes.

The BlurayPublishingServer process might have nothing to do with this either since it's really the FCP Process that goes crazy, not the Bluray one. I just noticed it appears everytime FCP X freaks out, and then disapear right after.

I even made a clean install of my OS a month or so ago and reinstalled everything, and the problem is still there.

Actually FCP10 does use Compressor frameworks even if you don't have Compressor. FCP10 and Compressor share the same render engine. You will find the BluRayPublishingServer executionable file inside your FCP10 application package contents, just like you find it in your Compressor app.

I agree with Tom this has nothing to do with FCP10 making automatic backups (this backup process does not need any excess CPU usage, just some RAM), so I think the first thing you need to do is to eliminate anything that could trigger the BRPServer. This BRPServer does take up lots of CPU usage as it is responsible for sending your raw timeline to the FCP10 encoder for BR encoding. The question is to find what could trigger it every 15 minutes or so.

First thing I would get rid of is the Automator application you have mentioned (you didn't mention what it exactly did). Do not just turn it off, as this won't prevent it from triggering or conflicting with other internal processes. Get it completely off your system if you don't really need it. Then perform a Repair Permissions on your boot drive, trash your FCP10 prefs and see if this helps.

Interesting to know.

As for my Automator, i use to to scan a part of my HardDisk to loacte specific files, and copy them somewhere else as backup. The files are only Text files and only a few of them, so it's really not taking much time to process, specially on SSD drives.

I'll still try to close Automator as i haven't tried that yet. If i dont turn it on, it should mater as everyone, or almost everyone, have Automoator on their system. If it's not turned on, it cannot trigger anything right? Because if it did, we'd see many complains about it.

i'll also do a Repair Permissions and the rest you suggested and i'll see what happens.

P.S. My FCP X kept crashing the whole computer a while ago, and i had to Repair Permissions like every week. This is why i decided to do a clean install of my OS, redownload FCP X, and reinstall it as well. I also changed all my SATA HardDrives for SSD's

Thx.

I feel your pain. Sorry to hear that nothing has helped. I would suggest you get in contact with Apple about this. I have found they are really helpful when it comes to FCP10. Just go to the feedback page and submit your problem here:

Usually they get back to you in a few days. Hope you will get this solved, this is very unusual.

Kind regards,

Well, here's some updates... (partially fixed)

The issue seems to be a bug with the firmware of one of my Optical Drive. The computer see one of my two Optical Drive as a BluRay Drive.

I have to unplug the *faulty* Drive for now, until they can find a way to fix this issue. I say *faulty* because the drive itself is still working properly but is not detected properly.

I haven't got any problems with FCP X since I unplugged my 2nd Optical Drive. It ***** because I often use both of my drives simultaneously T_T

Why FCP X keeps lagging every 12-14 minutes
