I just downloaded mountain lion and old apps won't work. Now what?

I've just downloaded mountain lion onto my macbook. I came from 10.6.8 and bypassed Lion. Now it won't let me get to things like my microsoft word in which I have files that I need. I get a message that says "You can't open the application Microsoft word because the PowerPC applications are no longer supported.

So how do I get to these files? I have a game that I enjoyed that gives me the same message. And they all have the white circle with the diagonal line through it. I'm sure there is a way around this, but what is it?

Anyone know?

Maybe it depends upon the complexity of the formatting of the original Microsoft Word document, but when I open one or two of them they seem formatted to me. Try sending me a sample to MichaelLAX at AOL dot com.

Maybe Text Edit is different in Mt. Lion; I continue to use Lion.

When I was a teenager, I used to assemble "fuzz tone" devices for my electric guitar playing friends. I was (and still am) a big fan of Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Paige and the classic group The Yardbirds!

Hey Michael,

I'll see if I can send you what I have. I guess I would send you a screenshot of when the word doc. opens on text edit. It looks just like anything else in text edit. Just a bunch of what looks like computer code. And then after you scroll down you start to see the text of whatever doc. you have opened. But, it's in the text edit window.

I'll see if I can figure out how to get it to you. I wish I had you around when I was a teenager and didn't have the money to buy fuzz boxes. You guys crack me up. I have a friend who said when he was a kid he took anythng and everything apart, just to see how it worked. I had absolutely no interest in that at all. I just wanted things to work. Interesting the different types of people in the world. You're probably a real handy guy to have around.

Thanks for the compliment! The best thing that ever happened to me was moving to Los Angeles as a teenager during the Hey Day of The Sunset Strip in the 60s and the 2nd best thing was getting rejected from Cal Tech!?!

So, instead I moved to Berkeley and enjoyed the whole scene there from 1967 - 1978! I started what became a major record store there when I was 19 years old... (and just missed Woz and Jobs!!!)

Wow. Interesting you mentioned Woz and Jobs. I was going to ask you why you didn't pull a Wozniak and get rich.

And I grew up in the bay area. I went to high school in Dublin. I know you spent some time in Leopolds and then went next door or a few doors up Durant to Top Dog. And you probably spent some time at Kips. What was the name of your record store out of curiosity?

I'll send you the my bio doc.

And I've got two other questions to ask you. See what you've started. Why doesn't spell checker work here on this forum? And how do I disable the other stupid spelling thing that tries to spell the word for you as you are typing? Do you know what I'm talking about? I have it on my iPod and it drives me crazy because it doesn't always guess the right word. How do I shut that off, and how do I get regular spell checker (the one with the red slashes under the word spelled incorrectly) how do I get that one turned on?

Honestly, I'm not really fond of this mountain lion.

Bob, be very careful here. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP.

Why?

Because you need to will probably need to upgrade your Aperture library to work with the new versions and I'm not sure the process is reversible.

No way! Do you know how much money I put into your pocket. Leopolds and Top Dog were a weekly event for us kids from the suburbs.

Leopolds was THE BEST! What a great era that was. I was just getting into jazz and Leopolds actually very intrumental in my musical education.

I'm constantly running into people who when they find out I grew up in the bay area, ask me questions about what it was like and the music scene. I missed the whole hippy thing ( graduated high school in '76) but I sure was aware and felt the great vibe. I think I was in 6th or 7th grade when the whole Altamont Stones thing happened. I remember hearing about it on the radio. And 580 out to Livermore was jam packed with cars.

Anyway, probably not the proper forum for this discussion. I apologize to any other users.

Gumsie, I'm not sure I understood what you were saying. Sorry. This is my first version of Aperture. I had the trial version. Before that I was using Canon's own Digital Photo Professional. I think that's what it is. DPP.

Can you explain to me what you meant? I suppose the only time I will upgrade will be in the future when they upgrade Aperture 3. But I'm really slow at doing upgrades. As I've just now upgraded to mountain lion and never did lion.

We started Leopold's as a non-profit, community oriented service, and subsequently incorporated it as Students of Berkeley, Inc. (non-profit). Profits were returned to the community in the form of grants and other donations pursuant to guidelines established by our Board of Directors. This all changed however, after I left to continue my graduate studies; when a subsequent manager "converted" it into a profit-making model under his ownership.
