Just heard on the news that we need to disable java script to prevent I.D. theft ... this coming from Homeland Security .... how do we do this ... and how will it impact my IMac?

The problem is with Java not Javascript.
You can disable Java in Safari/Preference/Security.
Disabling the Java may affect some home banking sites but you probabl won't notice anything different.
Will we need to keep Java disabled or will we ba able to use it again? also noticed that there is Java and Java Script on the Preferences/Security ... do I disable both?
Keep it disabled until:
1. the security flaw has been fixed.
AND
2. wait until you need it. You may never need it.
