Enable Oracle Java

Okay, Java is bad but I NEED ONE and I want to be sure that I could enable it when neede and it will work! How do I do this? I got the latest version java.com and installed it; checked Safari preferences — "Enable Java" IS enabled. Restarted my Mac with OSX 10.8.2 installed but **** no! — it still doesn't run Java plugin and says "The version of “Java” on your system does not include the latest security updates and has been blocked. To continue using “Java”, download an updated version from Oracle’s website." How do I enable this darn plugin??

I encounter a similar problem when running the WebfileManager on my QNAP-NAS for uploading files. Each time the Java on my system (Mavericks) is updated through the System Preferences panel, the code in the browser starts asking me to enable the JRE before doing anything. Sometimes the problem miraculously disappeared by accessing some sites that apparently are able to trigger the JRE enabling. Not today however. But after frantically searching all corners of the Java Control Panel I might have found a solution. I did the following:

call up the Java Control Panel in the System Preferences

open the Security tab

in the Exception Site list I added the IP address of my NAS

Lo and behold, suddenly the JRE must have been enabled/ I sincerely hope others with the same sort of problem might benefit from this observation.
