Printing wireless
I am trying to print wireless with the same computer and same printer by taking the USB end of the printer cord and plugging it into the airport extreem router. It works fine for wireless internet.

If you previously had this printer connected to the Mac via USB cable and then disconnected the USB cable and connected it to the Airport router, then you will have to add the printer again. Because the printer currently in Print & Scan on the Mac is for the USB connection and will not print to the networked printer.
So, open Print & Scan and select to add by clicking the plus button. With the Default view selected, the printer should appear in this view. If it does, select it. The Print Using menu should automatically select the appropriate printer driver and you can click Add to complete the print queue creation.
Now you should be ready to print.
Scratch my last message, I hadn't read it all. I'm looking into the Console application.
Well, it sure has been interesting. Perhaps there is something I can attempt to do and then see how it is worded in the Console application. Obviously, I have no idea what I am talking about. Just grasping at straws. But, if you think of anything, I'm all ears.
Can you check the version of Airport Utility you have installed. You can do this by highlighting the icon in Applications > Utilities and then select File > Get Info.
I've read some articles about the need to use an older version of the utilty with certain models of Airport.
Version: 6.1
And I was wondering if something perhaps needed an update. But you are saying maybe a downdate?

With v6.1 not finding the Extreme I am thinking it is an old model or its never had a firmware update and you may therefore need to use an older version.
Before you do try installing the older version, it may be worthwhile to ask the question on the Airport forum.
And if it is recommended to backdate, here's a link about installing v5.6.
I suddenly got the flu and am finally back to sitting upright. I am going to check Airport forum about what you said and I will post here any results I get from that.
(Downdate–an attempt at humor. But it is actually a term. Backdate. Hunh!)
Are you still there? I'm not getting any reply to my question in Airport forum. Below is what I said. Did I word it right?
"I have v6.1 for my Airport Utility and I am trying to print wirelessly, but it is not finding the Extreme. It has been suggested to me that I might need to backdate the airport utility. Is this true, and if so, how? Could I not just update the Extreme? and if so, how?"
The wording reads fine to me. You may want to add the model of Extreme you have. If you are not sure of the model then there is often information on the label on the bottom of the Extreme.
As for the question of updating the Extreme, you need to do this with the Airport Utility. So if you cannot connect to the Extreme with the utility, then you cannot update it.
Hey PAHU, thanks for all the info you put in here - trying to help my friend set her Canon MF 4010 printer - works fine with usb, but after plugging it into the Time Capsule ( usb port ) her brand new MacAir can see it immediatelly in the Settings - printer&scan - nearby printer tab - i click on it - it tries to connect but with an error - unsupported printer - I downloaded the latest driver and sellect it in the menu - printer looks to be set ok, but when launching the print it fails - sometimes with no error message and sometimes gives error on the driver :/ tried to delete all printers and drivers and reinstall... Restarted mac, time capsule and the printer and nothing :/ when connected directly with usb - after sellecting the driver, it works no problem and scanns and everything :/ is the printer just uncompatibile with the Time Capsule printing? Thanks a lot!

The printer is compatible but the UFR2 printer driver for Mac OS X is not. So Windows can still print to the machine, but the Mac is not able to due to the way in which the driver has been made.
Thanks a lot for answering ;) at least I can stop trying
