Call forward facility in iPhone 4S

I've been trying to use the 'call forwarding' feature in my iPhone 4S but it doesn't work. I go into settings-phone-call forwarding and turn it on. When I feed the number and return to the previous screen, it automatically turns off. Can anyone help me?

iPhone 4S, iOS 5.0.1

First, check with your carrier to insure that call forwarding is properly provisioned on your account. If its not, that setting won't work.

My operator (Vodafone) confirms that the facility is provisioned to my number. Could you think of any other possibility?
