You are correct - did not remember that!
I only burned 1 dvd in iDVD '05 because it was such a hassle, and what a racket it made. When I upgraded to Leopard, then Snow Leopard, I couldn't burn them at all. iDVD '05 wouldn't work. I haven't tried it with iDVD '09 maybe because I just assume it won't work. Maybe it will.
It will work - I've been using it with every OS including the new Mavericks. There is a difference between the iDVD versions in iLife 08 and 09 - iDVD from iLife 08 includes all the themes (starting with v.1), whereas iDVD from iLife 09 only has the latest themes included.
Hi Chiminey - iDVD 5 should have worked perfectly for you before you upgraded to Leopard. It should not have been a hassle at all! But after upgrading you needed a more recent version of iDVD - the latest (and last for all time) is 7.1.2. It is no longer offered as part of the iLife suite, unfortunately.
It did work, but it took a while, and when it was finished burning the disc, it would shoot it out like a cannonball. I know that sounds funny, and someone suggested I had a buggy superdrive. It was an '05 white iMac. My '09 iMac didn't have problems burning in iDVD '09, but again, I haven't tried burning from iDVD '05. I wonder if there is a copy of iLife '11 floating around on the internet with iDVD, and if its better than iDVD '09, which I have. Maybe I can find it at Amazon.
I'm always afraid that if I upgrade, what is on there won't work somehow. I've had that happen before. I had to install something called Rosetta on my iMac '09 to get iMovie HD '05 to work. I'm not sure if that is still true. Most of the time, I just get another computer and leave off where I was on the older one. I'm not good at understanding the operating system and how to manipulate it. I don't even know how to back up the whole system in case I want to revert. I've never performed defragmentation or anything like that. If something happened right now, and I lost everything on it, it would take me a while to figure out where to begin again.

Now, I'm trying to remember whether or not they included an iLife '09 disc with my '09 iMac. I think they had stopped sending discs with packages by then. I'm not sure there is much difference between iLife '11 and '09. Someone fill me in if there are any improvements and if its worth the risk of buying a copy of iLife '11 to install. Thanks.
in the 09 version, iDVD contains all the themes (past and present); in the 11 version, it only includes the latest. That is the only difference I know of as I only use iMovie and iDVD.
I just checked, and my version of iDVD is the 7.1.2 from July '11, but my iMovie is still '09, and I can't figure out how that happened to be. I don't remember updating iDVD via software update, and I know I don't have iMovie '11. This is confusing.
iMovie 9.0.9 and iDVD 7.x are the versions contained in iLife 11...... (those are mine and I did install iLife 11 from disk).
The next - current and new - version of iMovie is 10. There is no more iDVD.......
Mine shows iMovie '09 8.0.6. At some point, in my sleep, I guess I updated iDVD, but not iMovie. That is strange. I might just buy that Amazon boxed iLife '11 just to have.
