Early 2008 MacPro-internal optical options?

Hi all,

We have an Early 2008 MacPro 2.8G 8-core. it requires an IDE internal optical drives.

our OEM superdrive reads, but cannot write anymore. we've been getting aroundt his by DVD-R sharing (or file transfer first then burn) to MBP, but it's a bit painful.

I've looked at the usual suspects... Newegg, OWC... and they don't seem to carry IDE superdrives anymore. I even looked at eBay... didn't see anything that seemed ok.

All of our USB ports are used (heavily), so if I can avoid it, I'd like an internal option to replace our superdrive.

we're open to "upgrading" to blu-ray/DVD-R/CD-R, if adding the right expansion card will make it work without sleep/wake problems.

Anyone has done anything? or is it too late that I must go to external option?

currently it's using SnowLeopard, but in the near future we intend to upgrade to ML. so if the firmware requires ML, it's ok.

does using the internal SATA have any sleep/wake issues? I did a quick search and found OWC has few SATA drives with SATA cables for pre-2009 MacPros. so we're looking at that option now.

we're one of those who let teh computer sleep instead of shutting down and rebooting once a week or so... so the report on the need to disable disk sleep is not optimal.
