With 10.5 my Samsung monitor works perfect. Once I upgrade to 10.6 Snow Leopard, it no longer works at all. And I mean LITERALLY. I get a floating error message ""Not Optimum Mode, Recommended Mode: 1920 x 1080 60hz" and I can no longer use the monitor AT ALL. What the **** is going on here?

Try zapping the pram. Power off, power back on holding the following keys: option,command,P,R(no commas) press these keys before thr start chimes, continue to hold them till you hear the sart chime 2 times then release. Reboot. Hope this helps
It did not. That was the first thing I tried. Many times. And safe booting, which DID actually work, but the resolutions are still totally off and very limited. I also re-installed SL. This didn't work either. It's these kind of things that always give me pause about upgrading and unfortunately, it always comes to pass that MAJOR issues bring my workflow to a standstill. I have no idea why there is monitor resolution issues from an upgrade like this, but in all of my Mac years I've never run into a problem like this.
Scott, Just back from work, sorry to hear you're having issuses, I sent that as I was running out the door. How are you connecting from MBP to Monitor? If you are using a mini DVI, you want to go into the monitor VGA. Then you can get 1920X1080. The other formats don't support this, I can only get it using a VGA connection, on all my machines.

Hi. I'm connecting via standard VGA cable. Like I mentioned, NO monitor/resolution issues UNTIL I upgraded to Snow Leopard. NONE whatsoever. Now, it's all I can do from trying to find a solution (maybe updating the video card drivers?)

Scott, I apologize for my comments, I had one painful day. The screen shot I sent you was from my Mac 10.6.8 using a DVI to VGA to my Acer monitor, As you could see, when using the VGA I'm able to get the 1920X1080 image, when using other formats, HDMI, it is not available. Only on VGA. Are you going Big DVI to VGA, or mini DVI to VGA? On a side note, I will "try" to find a Mac around here that has the Big DVI to VGA and see if that works in giving the 1280X1080 res. Let me know while I hunt. I will get bak to you when I find one, I know there must be one here somewhere, as I have Macs from all the way back to the SE (probably before you were born that still work!) Talk to you soon. SJP
Scott, I found an old MBP 2008 with the big DVI, and connected to my Acer (it is located for easy access to do all these patches, looks like S**t) but kinda gets the job done. Try recalibrating your monitor, as it might be way out of whack with the new V-card. Your card could be on the way out as well. Try messing around with the res, I know this is a lame recommendation, but people that have not responded for weeks, are all seeming to want answers today. Don't worry, I won't forget about you, and try to find you an answer. SHoot questions at any time, and I will try to get to them ASAP. SJP
Yes try updating the video firmware drivers, they might be incompatible with the new software. SJP

The problem is with the Snow Leopard OS. I lose the 1920x1080 (recommended resolution from this monitor) when I upgrade. As I mentioned, I'm using the standard VGA cable connector. And I've wiped the hard drive, started over and STILL I can't it to work. Then I get a new resolution os 1900x1400, which of course, is great but it cuts off the bottom of my screen and then I can't get the DOCK to show up so as far as I can tell, I'm screwed. Now, If I want my dock, I'm stuck with a lameass1280x768 resolution. This really stinks.
Upgraded from 10.5 to 10.6 now monitor doens't work at all.
