iMac will only boot in safe mode after ram upgrade

I have a mid 2010 iMac 3.06GHz intel core i3 running Lion 10.7.5. I upgraded my ram from two 2gb chips to two 8Gb chips and now the computer will not boot unless in safe mode. If not in safe mode it will just get stuck on the grey screen with the apple. In safe mode I can check that both chips are recognized (it shows 16 gb of ram in 'about this Mac'). I have used the right specs on the new chips (new ones are g.skill ddr3-1333 pc3-10600/10666 8192MB CL9-9-9 So-Dimm). I have run disk verify (appears to be ok) and repaired permissions. Also reset pram. Any ideas? Much appreciated.

Never heard of that brand, but that's not surprising since I'm not in Australia.......

The decision is yours: try it with 16 (as long as they'll take it back if it doesn't work) or go with a total of 12. If the brand was recommended, fine and, as long as it works... can't argue with that. Do they have a warranty on it?

If you go with 12 or 16 total, make sure you match the modules horizontally.

I just returned the two 8GB and got two 4GB and am using the two 4GB and original two 2GB (in horizontally matching slots) and everything seems to be working just fine. Hoorah! Thanks very much for your help!

I am desperately looking for an answer and just joined this discussion group; if I'm not posting in the right place, I apologize.

On 1/13/13 afternoon, my Macbook Late 2008 running osx 10.8.2 suddenly wouldn't boot up. Fortunately, I performed a backup to Time Machine that day at 9:23am. When I entered Recovery Mode, and went to restore, the only backup listed was from December 2011. Having no other choice, I restored using the December backup.

But, when I opened Time Machine Backups from the Desktop (a green icon with Time Machine clock/arrow thingy on it) using Option>Browse Other Backup Disks, the 9:23 backup file is there. How do I get Restore to find/use the 9:23 backup so I can put my computer back the way it was pre-crash?
