price of ram difference!!

I'm looking to upgrade my Pro from 3 - 8Gb (at least), and have looked on Crucial's site who come recommended. But it's a mine field!...

A massive difference between this on eBay (£48.90 for 8GB): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UM142-8GB-4x2GB-PC2-5300F-FB-Server-ECC-RAM-DDR2-667MH z-2Rx4-240-Pin-Dell-HP-IBM-/281028814300?pt=UK_Computing_ComputerComponents_Memo ryRAM_JN&hash=item416e9f65dc

This on Crucial (£223.19 for 8GB): http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=1626055CA5CA7304

How on earth can the prices be so different, can anyone explain?? Or better still, what 'should' I be paying? (in GBP)

Thanks

Doesnt seem right . Cruicial were highly recomended & I found very cheap. Send them an email showing prices. There were very good to deal with .. delivery came in 3 days WOW , to Australia . Stunned at price & delivery. Sure you have the right one . It would seem unusual that MBP2010 , 8Gig of ram ( 2 x 4 ) cost Around $50 delivered. But you say $ 120AU per 2 gig ( $500au ) total . ASK them.

Everyone talks raw of number of modules, not pairs. The vendors are selling modules, and will describe them by the each.

Stating number of PAIRS causes confusion because many systems, including later Mac Pro do not require Pairs. If your system requires pairs (as yours does) YOU are the one burdened with mentally collecting them into pairs.

Those modules are completely different, and cannot be compared for price. Later modules (using a different technology) are often cheaper in price.

Modules for 2008 and older Mac Pro are REALLY expensive by comparison to newer Mac Pro RAM prices. So much so that if you need to establish a large Memory for the first time in a 2008 or older, it is cheaper to upgrade (buy newer and sell old) your Mac Pro to a 2009 or later, then upgrade to a large RAM on the new one. You save money.
