my ipod wont go into disk mode.

So my iPod Classic 80GB will not work. It pops up with the red X in a circle. I reset it like the support page says, second step is to put into disk mode, but the darn thing wont go into disk mode, it pops up with the red X again. Has anyone else had this problem?
