Turbo Tax 2012 file saving issue

I am installing TurboTax 2012. I cannot save my .tax2012 file - it says I do not have permission to save it. I have repaired my disk permissions and made sure I have read/write authority in the Turbo Tax application. What can I do to fix this?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Are you the only user of this Mac, or are there others? It sounds as if you might be trying to save a file in a managed account that doesn't have the authority to do so.

If you're the only user, you might try setting up a new account and see if you can save the file in that account.

A Mac (and Windows, too, for that matter) can be set up with different "accounts" for different users. For example, my Mac is set up with 3 accounts: Mine (administrator), my wife (administrator), and guest user. In this fashion, I only see my email in Mail when I'm logged in to my account, and the same for my wife...she only sees hers.

Sometimes, these "account" settings get corrupted to the point where something no longer works, but creating a new account gets it working again.

Or...your problem may have something to do with TurboTax in this latest version. I've not yet installed TurboTax 2012 on my iMac, but have never had the problem you describe in any previous year (and I've used it for more than 10 years).

Do you get the same results if you try to save the file to, say, a USB flash drive?

I, too have used Turbo Tax on this machine for 6 years. I have never had this problem before and I haven't changed anything. I talked to Turbo Tax and they seem to think it is an Apple issue. All the Turbo Tax errors are assigned numbers. This seems to be an Apple error message.

I am able to save to a flash drive. I just cant save my tax file anywhere on my imac.

Is TurboTax the only application that's acting up? Are you able to save other types of files to your hard drive?

If TurboTax is the ONLY application that's misbehaving, my suspicions would be cast strongly at Intuit. Do they have a support forum you could check to find out if any other Mac users are seeing this issue?

Another thought I just had...can you go to the folder you're trying to save the file to and check to make sure you've got read/write permissions in that folder? (I'm not at my Mac right now, but you should be able to right click a folder and choose Get Info to find this information). It might, for whatever reason, have been changed to Read Only...and, if you're the administrator, you should be able to change it to Read/Write).

Yes. Turbo Tax is the only application with the problem.I have been working in Excel and have no trouble saving. I went to the folder and changed all permissions to read and write. That did not help, but I thought it was a good idea. I even reopened Turbo Tax after changing the permissions.

When I contacted Turbo Tax they just had me change permissions to read write which didn't work. I'm okay saving to a flash drive, but I'm concerned I will not be able to file my return if I don't have the correct permissions associated with the file.

Since it is only Jan 16th, I'm thinking that not many others have gotten started with their filing process yet. Hopefully, someone else will run into the problem within the next few weeks to help force a resolution.

I appreciate all your helpful thoughts, Mike.

It sounds as if the problem is saving to the specific folder you want it saved to, right? In other words, you said you can save it to a flash drive earlier. I'm thinking you can probably save it to the desktop as well. Have you tried that?

I'm still pretty certain that it's a TurboTax thing, though. (And, honestly, I'm concerned, because I'll be using it myself in a couple of months!).

I have reinstalled Turbo Tax about 10 times, still have the problem. I don't get this either - used Turbo Tax for about 6 years on the same machine with no problems. I would exchange my disk, but I think most of the updates are bing downloaded from the internet. This one is a real puzzle to me.
