iWeb for business site

im starting my own video editing company and wanted to make a website for it. From what i head iWeb is pretty basic, but i dont want to fork out big bucks for dreamweaver, or learn html. I work 2 jobs plus try and see my family so im looking for something simple, but id like to be able to get some nice flash elements on a site. any ideas?

Welcome thejokker

Take a look at www.iWebUSerSites.com, this is a database of iWeb created sites by iWeb users. There are many different sites, both personal and business, take a look and see if it inspires you 🙂

Don't let iWeb's templates fool you. You can make a very professional looking site, as many have from just using the white (or black) template and adding your own text and graphics. You say you don't want to learn HTML, if this is the case, you are probably much better off with iWeb than either Golive or Dreamweaver. I use all three and find for most tasks, a nice layout and design can be achieved in iWeb and then tweaked in Dreamweaver, where knowing html (which is actually quite easy to learn) is a huge benefit. Take a look at some of the sites created with iWeb. IMO, unless you have a very good eye artistically, in most cases, iWeb can make it easy to develop a very nice site.

I would add that it's easy to develop a nice "personal" site. Incredibly easy. Drag in some graphics add some text, done!

However, many of the things that people want for business sites (and some that they want for advanced personal sites)

Stat tracking
Google Adsense
Internet Explorer compatibility
Comments
Flash

are outside of what iWeb can do and, as a result, requires some knowledge about the html files. In most cases, it's something you only have to learn once, but if you make a mistake, it can be hard trying to find where the problem is until you get used to where to look. Also, if you make a change to that page in iWeb, you then have to do post processing again since iWeb overwrites those files.

Just wanted to make sure the original poster understands that "easy" is from the perspective of someone like me who can edit html.
