The connect to Itunes won't go away

I recently updated my iPod 4thG via wifi. I left it overnight as it updated and when I woke up the connect to Itunes was on the screen. When I connect the iPod to the home computer the only option is to restore it. And although I synced it a couple of hours before, I didn't backup. Is there anyway to get this sign away without restoring it, or is there a way to back it up whilst it's in this 'mode'?
