Can you put any MP3 onto your phone?

I've asked someone with a 4S this, and they so far are having big difficulties.

On my phone (not an Apple device), I can use an MP3 I made. It's made using audio editing software, and it starts with the Thunderbirds are go, and then merges into another track. So it's rather amusing and lightens my day when I get a call and I hear it.

But I want to know if I could put that track onto an iPhone, and use it as a ring tone.

A friend has tried with her cable and with iCloud, to no avail.

With Windows/Android/Blackberry phones, doing this is truly simple.

How do you do this on the iPhone - if possible at all?

Sorry, I assumed you had an iPhone since you posted here. The Apple apps won't work on a non iOS device.

This is all 'pre sales'. I don't have one. And I know I cannot put an App on my non-Apple device.

I'm just enquiring about what Apps would do this, and if they make it easy to "assign mp3 as ringtone".

Seems very complicated to do something, that as I said, can be done very very simply on all other devices.

Bottom line,

- Yes, you can make custom ring tones out of mp3 files

- It's a pain in the *** out of the box

- There are a couple of free apps to do it that seem to work pretty well.

- You need an AppleID to download them, but you need an AppleID to do pretty much anything with an iPhone

Of course. Lots of people use iTunes without an iPhone or iPod at all.

Is this a good one? I've read about a few. Some that only work on a Mac. Some where they no longer work on iTunes.

It looks like you load your track onto iTunes and sync it with your iPhone. Then from within the app, you then go to the Library, find the track and start/end it where you want. And job done.

I assume you can load 'any' MP3 track onto iTunes for your phone? ie. rip it from a CD, cut it, etc as I have done, to make your own custom MP3 and load it up....?
