mac osx 10.8 arch is i386?

i know mac osx 10.8 supports both 32-bits and 64-bits. but when i type arch command. it returns i386?

Interesting observation. However, if you look

at the Process Monitor utility and see what is

listed for "kernel_task", a 64 bit install under kind

will display "Intel (64 bit)". If it is only a 32 bit install

it will only display "Intel". This is the true indication

of what is running.


BTW, Mountain Lion is a 64 bit kernel now. This however

does not prevent running 32 bit apps.
