Help with failed reinstallation of iPhoto 11

My first question to the community but struggling with this one.

I have a 15" 2010 Macbook Pro 6,2 with OSX 10.7.5, 8Gb 500Gb and over 100Gb free disk space

My iphoto data file is just over 100Gb in size

I have had an increasing number of "unexpected closures" of iphoto 11 recently - often though not always when uploading an image to facebook.

Having read a number of threads I have reinstalled iphoto from my ilfe 11 disks (I think it was iLife 09 that came with my machine).

I did first delete the receipts in the hidden folder

I have even reinstalled the operating system and I still get the error dump below. All updates have been applied.

iPhoto cannot be opened because of a problem

Check with the developer to make sure iPhoto works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X.

Have been running iPhoto the last 2 days with facebook account disabled and no crashes while I "clean up" the database, remove duplicates etc using library manager.

I don't believe the problem is in relation to a specific photograph though as uploads of numerous different photos caused the crashes I have been experiencing.

Once I've cleaned it up I'll reattempt a rebuild and cross my fingers it doesn't freeze...

It may be a few days yet as I'm busy at work this week.

Will report back and thanks for the help thus far.

Unfortunately all is still not well.

Using iPhoto Library Manager I have cleaned up my library by deleting nearly 2000 duplicates leaving me with a library of just over 30,000 photos. Unfortunately 2 attempts at rebuilding the library with this software have failed at at about the half way mark with just over 16,000 photos being put into the new libraray. This is with the facebook account still disabled.

You might give this a try to see if you can get a new library with all of the original files from your old one:

Starting over from scratch with new library

Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:

1. Open the library package like this.

User uploaded file

2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.

3. Drag the subfolders from the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder, several at a time, from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window of the new library.

User uploaded file

This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.

Note: your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

If the new library does contain all of your photos

Thanks - at this stage awaiting a reply from Fat Cat Software as I have no problems with my library other than iPhoto crashing when my facebook account is activated (and being unable to do a rebuild with IPLM).

I am reluctant to lose hundreds of hours worth of edits and face identification when I haven't actually lost any photos.

I presume the above simply restors my original photos in a "clean" database with these modifications missing.

I do appreciate the suggestions however...
