Aperture 3.4.3 crashing

I am having continual problems with Aperture 3.4.3 crashing when uploading to Facebook. I am currently using MAC OC 10.7.5. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

I have worked on this for 3 days - reinstalling 3.1 then 3.4.3 in addition to running all the troubleshoot options. It worked for a couple Facebook uploads then started crashing again! I am ready to look into other software. Does anyone have a customer service number I can call. I am obviously doing something wrong, or there is more to it on my computer.

I have also tried exporting the photos onto my destop and uploading them with the Facebook "add photos" feature. That works fine, but takes FOREVER!

I was also thinking about the crash message from Aperture - it is called:

4 com.apple.iPhoto.FacebookPublisher 0x0000000116212047 -[ILFacebookAPIRequest send] + 61

Could this have anything to do with iPhoto? I don't use it anymore, but it is integrated with Aperture.

Yes, my iPhoto library is now incorporated with Aperture - I can access it by selecting a different library. I have also imported photos from my old iPhoto library before the upgrade. I also have albums, slideshows, etc. in iPhoto that I have made, but have not imported them into Aperture.

I have not gone into iPhoto yet to check the preferences for Facebook. I am wondering if I should do that and delete any Facebook account set up there.

It is worth a check. Have a look and sign out of the iPhoto accounts.

I have tried it with many different images - still the same problem. I have not tried it from a different user account. This problem started happening when versiion 3.4.3 came out.

I'd like to come back to Frank Caggiano's suggestion.

  • Testing with a new, differerent Aperture library will ensure that no library corruption can interfere.
  • Testing from a different user account will ensure, that no preferences settings, presets, caches, start up items, plug-ins particular to your own user account will interfere.

If Aperture works from a different user account, you will know that your system and Aperture are o.k. and something in your user account is problematic.

Léonie

do you mean a different Facebook account?

No, I think Frank's suggestion was to create a different log-in account or your Mac - or you might simply try the "Guest" account. You can set-up a second user account with a different home folder from the System Preferences > "Users & Groups" panel. Launching Aperture from a different, new account with a different home folder will give you completely new preference settings, presets, etc. Don't change anything from the default settings when testing.

Okay, here is what I did.... I first went into iPhoto and deleted my Facebook account setup, then did the same in Aperture. I also went to System Preferences to check the Mail, Contacts & Calendars as well as the Security & Privacy to make sure there were no Facebook accounts set up there also.

Then I deleted the "com.apple.Aperture.plist" and the "com.apple.Aperture.plist.lockfile" files in the Finder.

Next I deleted my Aperture application, reinstalled the trial version and updated with the Software Update.

Now I opened the newly updated Aperture application and used the Share feature to upload 60+ photos to Facebook. (I had to reestablish my account first)

So far, so good...... I don't want to celebrate too soon, but no crashes!! I will continue to test this with a couple more albums to make sure it works.

The step I added this time was deleting my Facebook account set up in iPhoto as well as Aperture. I don't use iPhoto much at all anymore so I didn't think about it. Since my libraries were integrated I am sure there was a hang up in there somewhere.

Thanks again for all your help and I will be sure to post again if this continues!

Aperture 3.4.3 has problems. There are related posts about Aperture hanging while opening the aperture library. One of the many suggested "fixes" is deletion of Facebook accounts. I never had an FB account and aperture is hanging for me. I've tried every suggestion I can find to fix this hanging problem. No luck. The only fix is a reinstall of aperture which in my case works for a week or two, then the problem recurs.

Maneman,

To answer and earlier question you had, you can send feedback to Apple by going to 'Aperture' in the menu bar then down to 'Provide Aperture Feedback'.

Just for kicks, you may want to try creating another Facebook account just for testing purposes to rule out anything with your account.

Lastly, can you post a full crash log here?
