Ok I figured our it was WiseConvert and found the uninstall...that worked. Then I ran the uninstall on Genieo. Moved the Icons out of appllications to trash and deleted WiseConvert and Genieo. Opened Safari and it looks healed!!!!! Will see if the pop-up window fot Genieo stops. Thanks for helping!!!!!

I downloaded Genieo and didn't like it very much. So I uninstalled, which took many tries. It's not on my hard drive or in applications; it appears to be gone EXCEPT when I open Safari it's actually Genieo. I'm at a loss. Even coontacted JustAnswer website and got no help. Scratching my head. Since I can't open Safari, setting preferences, etc., is not an option. Is this just a permanent thing?

Once Genieo is uninstalled and does not exist in your application folder.

Please go to your browser settings and change the default homepage and search to match your decision.

Ok now that I can see its easy to explain.

  1. Close all windows except this one.
  2. Click on the word "safari"
  3. In the dropdown menu select "Preferences..."
  4. Set the following values:

Safari open with: A new window

New window open with: Homepage

New tab open with: Homepage

Hompage: Google.com (or any other web page)

  1. Restart safari
  2. Open the preferences window
  3. Change the default search engine to any other on the list
  4. Close preferences window and restart safari
  5. Make a search and verify it is with the correct search provider.
  6. Open the preferences window again
  7. Change the default search engine to the one you like
  8. Close preferences window and restart safari
  9. Make a search and verify it is with the correct search provider.
