After spending that much money on an iPhone one would think that Apple would have the decency to provide a charger cord that would at least last a year. My entire lightning end came apart where the outside protective layer meets the hard plastic of the end. It then created a break in a wire somewhere because the only way I could get it to work is to use electrical tape to tape it in a position that the wires touch properly.

Steve Jobs would have never of let this happen. He would have fixed the product and sent out a new one to everyone who owned one.

I bought my iPhone 5 on launch day 2012, just over a year ago. We got my wife an iPhone 5 in November when she was eligible for an upgrade. I still have my original cable, and it spends most days in in my shirt/jacket poscket, and still is just like new. My wife on the other hand has had to have 4 or 5 cables replaced so far. We had switched her to using a micro-usb cable with the adapter and it lasted a little longer, but she still stresses them real bad right where it comes out of the iPhone. The cables do not handle heavy stress right at the connectors. They damage easily if you stress them too heavily there.

These cables are poorly designed, OE or aftermarket. We've had Apple and Android devices for years. I have old style Ipod cords that the plastic cover over the 30 pin connector is falling off and the cable is several years old, has kinks and exposed wiring and it still works perfect. The only time I've had a mini USB (Android, etc.) cable fail was when my phone fell from the dash to the floorboard and landed right on the connector, even then if you moved it around it would still charge. The lightning cord is definately not teenager friendly. My kid's schoolmates are going through cords too. The OE cord lasted a few months same thing with a purchased OE replacement cord. We are now ordering Chinese bootleg cords in a 10 pack for less than a buck each. They last a few weeks on average. Epic fail Apple. Please make an I-Fruit cable that doesn't suck.

Learn from my mistake....be choosy when buying replacement cables. I bought a couple from somewhere in China for under $2 each and they worked for a few days but then the phone stopped recognizing them and wouldn't charge at all with them. It was a big pain. I think the problem is that the new head of Apple is so focused on the supply chain he doesn't understand that what is IN the supply chain is as important as the chain itself.

I have FINALLY found an awesome solution to the flawed lightning cable! This product is brand new and is running a crowd funding campaign on indiegogo! You can make your way to their campaign by going to cordarmor.com. It is really cool! It even has a light built in for when you are in the dark! I know i struggle to plug my phone in at night! Haha! So glad I found it. I've paid well over $100 for cables in a matter of months. Hope this helps

I just replaced my cord for the second time. I bought my phone in July. This is ridiculous and when I went to the store the tech played stupid like nobody else was having this problem. Ha! Googled it and lots of people are having the same problem. They did replace it, but what a hassle to have to go into the store (and often wait) every couple of months. My cords from my old iPhone and my iPods are still working the oldes is over ten years old.

I had brought my charger cable in to the local Apple store (Jump) here in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada and was blatantly told that AppleCare+ doesn't cover damaged iPhone 5 charger cables even though I was promised when I had purchased AppleCare+ that it would. I was basically told that AppleCare+ covers the cable up until the cable becomes damaged. I had told the rep that I plug my phone in at night and unplug it in the morning but why after only half a year is the cable falling apart. I have had a iPod charger for 4 or 5 years now and it is in perfect condition. I suggested that the cable was of extremely poor quality or was faulty. The rep had used the analogy; when you buy a new car it comes with warranty, however if you go out and crash the car it isn’t covered under warranty. I guess when it comes to taking your money they are all for it, but as soon as the faulty product fall apart the loopholes open...

My girlfriend and I each have iPhone 5's and a 5th gen iPod Touch. So far, we are up to 14 cables broken and left with only one working cable which happens to not fit unless I take off my case as well as being only 1'6".

I have even taken to soldering back together the 3rd party cables with little success...

We greatly enjoy our iPhone's, but I am on disability and she is in college, so money is tight and we can't really afford to keep buying cables... Options? HELP!!! ALWAYS LOW BATTERY!!!
