How do you put a new title onto a DVD disc?

I just successfully burned my first DVD from an MP4 file, using the OneStep DVD process. Everything went fine and the DVD plays great, but I can find no way to put a title on the DVD disc. With the DVD in the computer's DVD drive, I can highlight the disc's symbol on the Desktop but I can not remove the "IDVD_ONE STEP_DVD" title given to the disc during the burning process by iDVD. Anyone know what the trick is to naming a disc after you've created one? I'm using Mac 10.6.8.

You can't use OneStep DVD and get to name the DVD. You need to use one of the other options so that you can name the Project which gives the disk image its name.

With Magic DVD it would be here:

With the Create a New Project option it would be here:

With either of those options it's suggested to follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality final product:

Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.

To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.

Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

Hi Klaus,

I just retraced my steps through the process and at no point are you given an opportunity to name the disc. When you use the iDVD option "OneStep DVD from Movie" under the File menu, the next screen asks you to open and import the video. Once you click on the Import button, the next screen immediately tells you to insert a recordable DVD. As soon as you do, iDVD begins burning the video to the DVD disc. Unless I missed something, at no point in the process are you given an opportunity to name the disc.

Thanks,

Bob W.

From what I can tell you're asking if you can separate the subtitles and make them selectable within a DVD menu (like a professional DVD). iDVD does not support that type of functionality. The only way you'd be able to have subtitles is to encode them into the movie file (which it seems like you're already doing with handbrake). Alternatively, you could try really lowering the quality and putting two separate low quality tracks, one with subtitles and the other without.

The selectable subtitle functionality is available in DVD Creator Mac if you're willing to shell out the cash...
