My iMac's internet is super slow!!!!

I have several devices that are conected to the internet at any given time. Including an iPhone 5, iPad 2, iMac 21" and several other computers. All my devices are connected to the internet through an Airport extreme. My internet download speeds are consistantly around 20-25 mbps, however when I try to load a web page on my iMac its like its 10 years ago and I am using dial up. And while waiting for my iMac to load the page if I try to load the same page on either my iPad or iPhone it will load instantly. Again all of my devices are connected to the same Airport extreme.

At first I thought that it was Mediacom's crappy service but then I noticed that my other devices are working perfectly.

Please help, this is extremely annoying considering I use this computer for work and I need constant and fast internet for my job.

I found this question googling "slow iMac". Though the thread is older, I want to add another tip.

I had Dropbox app running in the background on my desktop, and it greatly slowed everything down on my Mac.

Try quitting the app, and see if it makes a difference for you.

Hi Linc,

Sorry to disturb you like this. I was looking for some help online why my iMac is so slow and I have came across this discussion. The link do not open in my case? What is that mean? I use OS x 10.9.5 3GB Ram my hard drive is less than quarter full. System generally very slow but internet is terrible. Both running safari and Opera. I was wondering if anyone can advice.

I had the same problem:

- Of course the problem is not the Hardware!

I tried everything and the only thing that works is to use another user.

For that I had to transfer all my data to the share folder and make another user. After that I log on my cloud and got everything back. It not fun to have to do this but It was the only way.

Everything started after I got a Show at iTunes: The same thing happens to my Mac Book air and my iMac. My lucky was that my MacBook Pro was fine going up to 60mbs while on my other computers the speed was 15mbs.

Sounds ridiculous but it some something with iTunes interfering with the internet and letting the internet connection slow. I wish someone knew a fix for it beside having to do this process.

I am having the same issue. I have erased everything and internet is still slow on the iMac only (all other devices connected to the network are fine)...

My iMac's internet is super slow!!!!
