How do I remote into OS X Server?

I just recieved a new Mac Mini Server. I have connected it to a timecapsule. I have already reserved the DHCP and still unable to screen share. I know it is connected with the IP reserved becasue I can see it when using the Network Utility app. Everytime I go to "Connect to server" it fails. Is it not possible to setup the mini without a monitor, keyboard, or mouse anymore?

Hi,

Try following these instructions to enable screen sharing on the Mac OS X sharing system preference:

You can (and I do) run mac mini servers headless.

Are you trying to connect to the mac mini server from outside of your local network (like from across the internet)?

Here are some other options that should work in that instance.

Good luck!

The mini is straight out of the box. I did some initial leg on my network work to reserve the IP address using the ethernet mac address. I have tripled checked the mac address. The mini is connected to my network using an ethernet cable on my Timecapsule and should allow me to screen share. I can't even get to the username and password prompt.

I have 4 other iMacs on my network and am able to screen share, but physically had to set them to screen share as your links describe. I know how to do all that. I am trying to set this server up without a monitor or keyboard. I have done so in the past using the "root" and "seiral number" as the username and password and it worked great. I'm just curious if Mountain Lion no longer supports that because I have quadruple checked this system and can't figure out how to do it without setting up a monitor and keyboard.

The mini might have 3 mac addresses, bluetooth, wifi, and ethernet. You may want to make sure you're using the ethernet mac address and not the wifi mac address (common mistake).

Here's how to make sure you've got the ethernet mac address:

Also, is your mini set to sleep? It may not wake from sleep for network access. You may have to set the system to never sleep in the energy system preference.

I ultimately hooked the mini up to a monitor. Instead of getting the "select a language" screen, the first screen was asking for connection to a keyboard and mouse. It would not do anything else until I did. Weird. . . Just aggravating you can't screen share straight out the box like you could in mid 2011.

Thanks for ya'lls input! It is greatly appreciated.
