transfer pictures from iPhone 5 to Mac
Thus far I have been unable to uncover information on how to transfer media (iPhone photos and videos) to my MacBook Pro. Can you point me in the right direction?
iPhone 5, iOS 6.0.2, to MacBook Pro OS X 10.8.2

Another completely free solution is to use Pic Share It to send the files over Wi-Fi from your Mac to your iPhone. You just connect to the iPhone over Wi-Fi and drag and drop photos to your iPhone.
Thank you so much for this information, I've spent over half an hour searching to transfer my photos to use in photoshop, and didn't find anything but the stupid iPhoto. I'm new to mac, so this really helped me. Thanks.
This is not a good way to bring over your photos...as it creates a new file and new File Date. I want to keep original photo tags with the photo.. I used to be able to do this by just connecting my phone via USB and I could see the phone as a drive in my Finder window...then just do a simple copy and paste. All information on the original file stayed intact. However when I import into I-Photo it destroys all original information ... makes all my photos show up as if they were taken the same day I imported them. this is a terrible solution as I use the original photo date to sort my photos. I say I USED to... as I am not sure when...but at some point during one of Apples numerous updates... the phone no longer shows up in Finder !!! ugh..
What "manual". None comes w/ the phone... You have to dig through the **** Apple archives to find your model to download. This documentation though way better than anything Microsoft can draft, still falls somewhat short of telling you how to do stuff. Since you are no help, go crawl back in your hole... ;-)

To open iPhoto on the phone does allow you to select photo 1 by 1. There is aggregation selection like selecting say 200 at once. Lame. If I have over 6000 photos, I don't want to spend two days doing this.

This was very helpful. Yes, I now remember I used to do this when I had my old 3G iPhone. Silly me. I think it from going back
& forth to operating systems like Microsoft, that I forgot about simplicity. It imported just find. I would have liked to have the same orgainization as it is on the iPhone, though I am happy to have the pictures at least now that I'm using Yosemite... Thanks again.

Some people are frustrated you must ignore them
You made my day, thanks a lot ! As I have macbook(white) and having iphone5s, airdrop was not working. iPhoto got in-operational after OS got upgraded to Yosemite. With your idea of capture, I could transfer the videos and picture from my iPhone.
OH! Thank you so much - this is the thing I have been looking for since I bought my MacBook Pro FOUR YEARS AGO!!! (iPhoto killed my first hard drive, so I have been looking to avoid it ever since.) This was SO SIMPLE and was an absolute relief to find! Kudos!!!
The traditional way to transfer pictures from iPhone 5 to Mac is using iPhoto which you know about https://www.apple.com/mac/iphoto/ .Plug your iPhone or iPad into the Mac if it's not already, and you'll see the appropriate icon appear in iPhoto's left-hand menu bar under DEVICES. Click the iPhone and you'll see information about all the snaps on there, together with the option to import selected photos, or to import all of them (250 in our case) at once. Select the option you prefer. Therefore, your iPhone 5 pictures can be transferred to Mac. On the other hand, you can apply iTunes to backup or sync your iPhone 5 pictures to save them.
This post is over two years old.
The OP likely has solved their issue by now.
I am having the same problem - opening iPhoto does not fix the problem as my iPhone is not listed as a device. Neither iPhoto nor Finder are recognizing the iPhone. iTunes does.
Thanks. Thats the simplest way to transfer the pictures
iPhoto is now a thing of the past. Other options?
My iPhone isn't showing up in finder. Plus Mac got rid of iPhoto. This thread is useless.
