ipod touch - can't connect to my account

I bought an used ipod touch. I can't connect to my apple account. It says it can't connect and to check the date and time? This makes no sense to me

Go to Settings>Genera>Date and Tinme and make sure it is correct. That includes the time zone

Thanks, I did set the time and it's correct for the pacific time zone, i'm in CA. This is why it doesn't make sense to me. sorry for not clarifying that part.
