Treo 650 & iCal

I've changed the settings in Wireless Sync to enable other sync apps, so I can actually sync up my address book and iCal events between my g5 and treo.

I added calendar events to my treo, but they don't transfer over to my g5's iCal. Two events did, but there are ten that simply don't show up. I can't find any definitive differences between the events that didn't show up and the ones that didn't.
I also made updates to my treo's Contacts that didn't transfer over to my g5's Address Book.

Start by launching iSync and selecting Reset Sync HIstory… from the Preferences… menu. That won't affect your actual data records, but will simply reinitialize the truth database maintained by the Sync Services framework.

Then, attempt to synchronize again, selecting Merge when offered the choice to either Replace the data on your handheld, or Merge data with it. That should resolve the issue so that subsequent synchronization events transfer the additions, changes and deletions made on any device, application or server in your pool to all of the others.

After resetting the Sync History, I pressed the button on my handheld's cradle to sync. I didn't get the choice to Merge or Replace the data on my handheld. I was given the option of "allowing" changes to be made, via the Data Change Alert option in iSync preferences.

By the way, pressing that button is the only way I can sync the Treo with my g5. Pressing the sync devices button in iSync does nothing. The progress bar starts off saying that syncronization is beginning but then it immediately skips everything and says that its finished.

You aren't always given the option - if you absolutely want to have that option, you have to remove your device and then add it back to iSync, after performing the reset.

If 'allowing' the changes corrected the situation, you're fine. If not, then it's Reset, Remove, Add [using the Enable Palm OS Syncing… option] and finally synchronize.

The action of the Sync Devices icon or button in iSync is normal. The only way you can initiate a HotSync under Mac OS X 10.4 or later is to use the button on your cable or cradle, or to initiate it from the HotSync application on your Palm.

I was using Missing Sync to sync my Treo 650 to my PB G4/Tiger, as was originally recommended by someone at Palm or Verizon (my carrier) but it all of a sudden stopped backing up my media. So I did tech support for Verizon, then to Palm, and then to Apple to see if we could get iSync working.

Also, the fact that Missing Sync has NO phone tech support means that it takes forever to get any question answered since they answer most tech queries from a series of FAQ responses.

So I plunged into iSync/Palm. Finally, iSync worked and started to synch. Everything seemed to be working fine, it seemed to sync the Address Book fine, but thn while synching the DatebookDB the Treo restarts for some reason, ending the sync session.

Here is the log:

I tried this numerous times with the same result, even hooking up the charger to the Hot Sync cable to see if it was some power issue.

Does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it?

Thanks,

That error is generally an indication of a low memory condition, forcing a disconnect of your synchronization [or other file transfer] session.

Check to see that you have sufficient RAM available on your Palm device. Consider moving applications and support files to an SD expansion card, using a utility like PowerRUN, if you do not have sufficient free memory.

If that is not the problem, check to be sure that Verizon's Wireless Sync application on board your device is set to allow the use of other synchronization software. If that option is set properly, consider performing a hard reset of your Treo to correct the problem.

This issue has nothing at all to do with the Missing Sync for Palm OS, with iSync or with the Palm Desktop. It's all about your device configuration.

Hi, Michael!

You won't see the link to The Lounge in the lower left hand corner of the main page until you have accumulated at least 8000 points as a contributor to Apple Discussions. The point system is explained in the window which you are taken to when you press the Help & Terms of Use link in the right sidebar.

I had just passed the 8000 point mark to reach Level 4 when she posted that note. I have no idea if the original issue was ever resolved, because those who posted earlier have not done so subsequently.

Thanks, Michael for the explaination, and CONGRATULATIONS!! 8000 points is quite an accomplishment! I guess you've helped a lot of people in the last 5 1/2 years!

I just got my Treo 650, but I can't find the Mac sync software that Verizon supposedly has. Got a link?

Also, although I can see already that I love the palm, I have noticed that the phone does not pick up a signal as well as my old LG, so it looks like more broken words, more dropped calls, and more "Can you hear me now!"

Any pointers there? (I'm in The OC)
Thanks,

Thank you. While I've had a login ID in the Apple Discussions forums for more than 5 years, I've really only been active here for about a year-and-a-half.

Though Verizon has a reputation generally for maintaining a strong network signal, I've been told by several people in the Los Angeles basin and Orange County area that it is particularly not the case in that region. In addition, the Treo has a reputation for being less sensitive than some other devices. Whether that is an issue with the stubby antenna or the radio itself is not clear.

I don't think that Verizon itself provides Macintosh-compatible synchronization software. It does, however, have Wireless Sync installed on your device—it's a Palm OS application—to support synchronization across the Verizon network. To use either iSync or the Missing Sync via USB or Bluetooth with your device, requires that you configure Wireless Sync by setting an option on your smartphone to allow the use of other synchronization software.
