Doc not being maximized

Hello everyone I have a dock question

My dock looks really small on my screen and when I go to dock prefrences the dock is already maximized to the largest setting but when its moved to make the dock smaller the dock doesnt shrink until you get it fully minimized. There is something that is not making my dock actually large even though its on the setting. I am not sure how to fix this or to get my dock to actuall fully maximize to the largest setting or show that its getting smaller.
