MacBook Pro Retina Fan Issues

i went to genius bar and demonstrated the issue on one of their floor models. They went in the back and did a "search" and claimed that no one reported it yet. After doing more tests, I got a different code: R86219445

I wonder, along with @peppie55, whether the internal tracking number can be followed by customers.

Maybe apple care could check the status?

I just came across this thread. I have the exact same issue, my 15" MBPr is just a couple of weeks old, it did a fan spike the day I was setting it up just about an hour into it's first session. I was only surfing the web having just downloaded Chrome. I also have a SanDisk SSD.

The next day I was after installing Evernote from the App Store I was writing some notes and the fans revved up very high for about a minute then returned to a quiet level.

I've done a hardware test and some others after reading the entire 19 pages here. Everything checks out OK.

So I will follow this thread and hopefully will learn something when Oyinko2 hears back.

For the newcomers on the thread. Please check if your mac has the issue with the fans management.

- Download this song

- Close every application.

- Lauch iTunes and play the song.

If you have a faulty Macbook Pro Retina, It should kick your fans up between 2-5 minutes like in this video.

Then answers the following questions:

- Do you have the problem (Yes/No)

- When did you buy your Macbook Pro?

- What are his specifications?

- What SSD do you have (Sandisk or Samsung)?

Then, do a PRAM Reset, a SMC reset and call the Apple Support to tell them you have an issue with your Mac.

Tell them you are not the only one with this case because there are others case number for the same problem (case number / 416742374 / 419723106 / 419669449) and an engineering code: (R86219445).

If this proves to be that it is something to do with the Sandisk hard drives will that be able to be solved by a software update or will they need to replace the hard drive?

i'm waiting for firmware update, but for now, i've limit the maximum speed of fans with smbFancontrol software, and with this terminak commands

I can confirm that the audio file started the fans after about 2 mins, they eventually slowly came back down and went up again etc, bit all over the place really until I killed itunes, then it finally died off. At no point did the activity monitor show a single block of CPU usage......

Anyhow it's a

15" rMBP 2.4Ghz.

On a slightly more positive note I'm seeing that the issue is starting to be picked up by geek sites and I suspect main stream media will be not far away 🙂, then it's just going to get ugly...

The fans went up after 4 minutes and went down again just as the song was finished.

This is the old top config but I bought it yesterday with a discount.

EDIT: After a PRAM and SMC reset I redid the test and this time it started to spin up the fans after less than 2 minutes. After 4 minutes is started slowing down and once the song was over it was at normal leve.
