MacBook Pro Retina Fan Issues

Hi,

I bought a macBook Pro Retina just under a month ago, and have been experiencing some issues with the fan speeds.

I can be just browsing the web or checking emails or playing music through iTunes, and the fans will spin up to full speed for a minute or so, and then return to normal.

I have reset the SMC, the PRAM and repaired the Disk and Disk Permissions, with no luck, I've also tried a full format and reinstall with no luck either.

I have seen that others have been experiencing similar issues, and wanted to get some advice on where I can go from here.

Attached below is a Screen Grab of my temps and fan speeds. The fans were at normal speed for a few minutes, then went up to a high speed, back down and then back up again, and kept repeating.

Thanks in advance,

James.

Same issue here:

MacBook Pro Retina (2013)

2 and half weeks old

2.4 GHz / 8GB RAM / 256 SSD

Sandisk

This is my second unit. I returned my original just to get the the newly 2.4 GHz model (the previous 2012 base model was 2.3 GHz). I was glad the 2013 model came with a Samsung display instead of LG (which some people related to the ghosting problem).. but now this!!.. ~:o{

For the newcomers on the thread. Please check if your mac has the issue with the fans management.

- Download this song

- Close every application.

- Lauch iTunes and play the song.

If you have a faulty Macbook Pro Retina, It should kick your fans up between 2-5 minutes like in this video.

Then answers the following questions:

- Do you have the problem (Yes/No)

- When did you buy your Macbook Pro?

- What are his specifications?

- What SSD do you have (Sandisk or Samsung)?

Then, do a PRAM Reset, a SMC reset and call the Apple Support to tell them you have an issue with your Mac.

Tell them you are not the only one with this case because there are others case number for the same problem (case number / 416742374 / 419723106 / 419669449) and an engineering code: (R86219445).

Performing a PRAM reset will not aid in a resoltuion of the issue. While it will also not hurt anything, it's not geared toward anything to do with the fan management.

Here is Apple's Kbase on "resetting PRAM" http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

Information stored in NVRAM / PRAM includes:

  • Speaker volume
  • Screen resolution
  • Startup disk selection
  • Recent kernel panic information, if any

The ONLY resolution that we could do ourselves would be to reset the SMC as done via this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964

After performing normal troubleshooting, these symptoms may indicate that an SMC reset may be necessary:

You have to go to the genius bar and point them to other case numbers. That's the way to signal to them that there's a real issue here.

Mention the case numbers (416742374 / 419723106 / 419669449) and the engineering code (R86219445).

Also the "R86219445" is not an "engineering code" — it's simply a case number that originated from an Apple Retail Store.

I only bring this up so that when you folks call in … don't make yourself sound stupid by trying to provide an "engineering code" cuz they won't know *** you're talking about LOL

So basically there are 4 CASE numbers … 1 of them is from Retail
