MacBook Pro Retina Fan Issues

Wonder if Sandisks' faster Read speed than Samsungs' has anything to do with it? and the incompetent AAPL Programers didn't account for the difference when replacing the vendor?

I have a Macbook Pro Retina 13 with APPLE SSD SM256E disk (which stands for Samsung), and I experienced unexplained fan activity several times since I bought the device (like 3 months ago).

So I assume the problem is not related to SSD used.

But: I get the issue very rarely, so possibly that's another story.

I think i can be included on the list.

I bought my rMBP aoround 20th January, BTO, 2.6 16gb and found today that my 512 SSD HD is Sandisk manufactured.

I noticed these airplane starting like fan peaks sometimes, but didn't care so much because i use my laptop all day long with a lot of applications opened for my job, so i tought that was something normal.

Just some minutes ago i was reading a macrumors thread, and i noticed this problem that affected Sandisks equipped rMBP's.

So i tried a simple test, i connected my USB3 Lacie Rikiki external drive and copied from it, to the desktop, the Adobe CS6 Trial installer that's about 7,15Gb large (The transfer needed about one minute).

The fans started to rotate at max velocity after 10 sec that the file transfer started, and then they continued to rotate at max velocity for about one minute.

Now i'll try the Apple Hardware Test, but from what i've read probably it will be all fine. (I hope!)

Try UltraFan it should suppress these unwarranted fan surges, at least until Apple get`s a fix out.

got the same issue with my rMBP - ME664. I got it this afternoon and the fan becomes noisy now and then, especially when downloading something.

I had the fan problem too on my 2,3/16/256 Sandisk SSD + some other issues.

I then reinstalled 10.8.2 and it also removed my ClicktoFlash extension. And so far I haven't had the fans running wild. steady 54 C and 2154 rpm

Glad I found this thread through MacRumours. Have had the problem since Day 1 - and its VERY annoying to have the fan ramp up when there is virtually no activity.

I have a 2.6/8/SD512E which I assume is a SanDisk.

I will contact Apple support again tomorrow

I've just received a few days ago the new Macbook Pro retina 15,4 and I've the same issue here.

Fans are making some noise during 1 minute every 5min (without big applications opened).

Configuration :

15,4"

512 GB SSD

16 GB RAM

2,8Ghz

I really hope Apple will fix that asap because this is totally unbelievable for this type of device at this price !

They don't know yet but It seems they will be able to fixe it by a software udpate.

Hello people, I can confirm that my 15" MacBook Pro Retina Display with 2.3GHz Core i7 processor / 8GB RAM / 256GB SSD (made by SanDisk) is indeed having this same issues with the fan, is very annoying !. I bought this machine on December 2012 and it has a Samsung screen (not LG)

I really really hope this is software related so Apple could fix it with a new firmware update. So Apple please fix it asap !

Assume it's a Sandisk model

So far:

-Clicky fan noise surfing with safari

-Frequent intervals of wooshing waterfall-like fan noise while uploading some raw images to iphoto.

Getting some press on this though I see.

My plan is to repeatedly return/get new machine every 10-11 days until this issue is fixed (coupled with a nice lunch and stroll around central park)

With Ultrafan the fans doesn't kick in as much as before so, it helps a bit till there will be a update.

edit: The fans kick in to 4300 Rpm, so it's less then 6000 Rpm, but not perfect.

I was wondering about my fan kicking on high speed a couple of minutes after opening the lid. All component temps 70f-80f. Hope to be fixed with an update.
