MacBook Pro Retina Fan Issues

Hi,

I bought a macBook Pro Retina just under a month ago, and have been experiencing some issues with the fan speeds.

I can be just browsing the web or checking emails or playing music through iTunes, and the fans will spin up to full speed for a minute or so, and then return to normal.

I have reset the SMC, the PRAM and repaired the Disk and Disk Permissions, with no luck, I've also tried a full format and reinstall with no luck either.

I have seen that others have been experiencing similar issues, and wanted to get some advice on where I can go from here.

Attached below is a Screen Grab of my temps and fan speeds. The fans were at normal speed for a few minutes, then went up to a high speed, back down and then back up again, and kept repeating.

In fact I have the same issue here. But there's no performance issue. This rMBP 2013 is so fast, I would not give it back. I am pretty sure it will be solved with a new firmware update.

Downloading right now. But I think we are more waiting for a SMC update rahther a OSX Update.

There's a strong case that the fan spikes are caused by the new SSDs in the 2013 batch. If that's the case, doesn't this mean it's a hardware issue? And as jpad1208 said, if this is a software issue, we're all screwed...

Yep, but it can be the software/hardware combination! because the fans are needed for cooling and if you're device isn't hot, it don't need to cool, so there is a bug in the controller software (SMC).

Just runned a Apple LossLess song and didn't have the fan spkies... for now. 🙂

Will run more tests.

Sorry guys. I'm running the last build of the 10.8.3 and despite I just said, with more tests I still have the fan spikes. 😟

That's not very nice, but since I've the 2.3 model exchanged for the 2.4 model I've less spikes, but only when playing a apple lossless file.

Did you try to use an "external" software fan controller. I tried smcFanControl and had no fan spikes. It seems to be a workaround, isn't it.

No, it's not, it's just i Minimum fan speed, so if I set it to 4000 RPM it stil goes to 6000 RPM.
