Q: MacBook Pro Retina Fan Issues

Hi,

 

I bought a macBook Pro Retina just under a month ago, and have been experiencing some issues with the fan speeds.

 

I can be just browsing the web or checking emails or playing music through iTunes, and the fans will spin up to full speed for a minute or so, and then return to normal.

 

I have reset the SMC, the PRAM and repaired the Disk and Disk Permissions, with no luck, I've also tried a full format and reinstall with no luck either.

 

I have seen that others have been experiencing similar issues, and wanted to get some advice on where I can go from here.


Attached below is a Screen Grab of my temps and fan speeds. The fans were at normal speed for a few minutes, then went up to a high speed, back down and then back up again, and kept repeating.

    I got the same fan problem, in addition to an unexpected restart. Waiting for the solution. Do you guys meet the restart problem? Sort of unreliable new model.

    same fan issue with a 2013 MBPr 15", Sandisk HDD,

     

    random speeding up of fans regardless of activity, I have found that closing the lid shuts of the fans in about 3 seconds - hardly a practical fix.....

    Well, I have the same issue on my rMBP 15'' 2.7 i7, 16GB, 512 GB Sandisk SSD. But I am pretty sure they will solve it with a software update. No need to bring the hardware back to the shop.

    Everyone who posted here should contact apple care and report the problem and get a case #. We should keep the momentum going.

    I have exactly the same issue with mine rMBP 15'' 2.3 i7 8GB 256GB SSD(2012)! I cannot contact apple care 'cos I am from Ukraine but I hope Apple will fix this!

    Same problem here. Bought december 2012, i7 2.7/16/512. Have not checked the brand of the SSD yet. Have apple care, but will wait to see an official explanation of the problem and if it will be resolved with software update, before sending it back to Apple (if needed).

    Did someone try to swap the SSD with the Samsung or OWC ones?

    Maybe this is the only way to test if is a SSD problem.

    FYI before I opened this forum I thought that it is related to increasing temperature near "Battery TS2" sensor (iStat Menus). I found some correlation between its temperature and fan's sudden peaks. But this is just my observations and how I explained this problem to my self )

    sorry for german post!

     

    Ich habe dasselbe Problem.

    Es tritt zwar nicht beim benützen von iTunes auf, aber sobald grössere Datenmengen

    auf das MacBook übertragen werden, fangen die Lüfter an auf max. zu drehen.

    Alle Temps sind auf Normalwert.

    Was mir noch auffällt ist, dass es nur auftritt, wenn das MBPr am Stromnetz hängt.

    Über Battery hatte ich das noch nicht.

    Muss das ganze aber nochmal testen. Bin mir noch nicht sicher.

    I explained a few pages back that I'd swapped a Samsung 256 for the sandisk 512. Problem confirmed on mine.

     

    Never had any spin ups in 6 months of ownership with the Samsung model SSD.

    My rMBP 2.3GHz/256GB (bought early February) has the same problem, and has the Sandisk storage. The fan spikes for me always seem to happen when data is being transmitted over WiFi - but this might be a coincidence. It seems to be more related to long stretches of frequent WiFi use than to large volumes of data transfer (it happened a lot when I copied large amounts of emails between two remote IMAP servers through Mail, but also when using torrents - when not transferring data it does not seem to occur).
