If you buy and download an album on iTunes and want to play it on a burnt CD in the car, how would you go about doing this?
I'd have thought you could export it from iTunes as MP3, or use an iTunes tool to export "to CD".
Need a bit of advice please.

No, it doesn't matter. iTunes runs on Windows with all of the same features found in the Mac version. There are many millions of people who own an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch who don't own a Mac.

Once created as MP3, how do I access the *.mp3 file, to put on my old mp3 player? Or my fob.
The easiest way is to just drag the converted track from the iTunes window to your computer desktop. That will copy the file there so you can easily find it. Once you put the track on the MP3 player, you can delete it since it will be a duplicate. You can also look for the track(s) in the appropriate folder for the album in the iTunes folder, usually in the My Music folder in your Documents folder on your system.

I think the MP3 version will always be below the original version in iTunes, but is there a "column" to enable, that shows it - just to be certain of what one is deleting?
Right-click on any of the column headers and select to show the "Kind" column. That will show you the format of the tracks. If you don't want to keep any of the MP3, you can click on the Kind header to sort by that column. Then you'll see all your MP3s together and delete them en masse.
