Windows 8

I bought a Windows 8 64 Bit Full Version (OEM) from BestBuy.com. I also found it at Newegg.com. ~$100.
I am new to all this, but I think this is the version you could be looking for. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

On 500 GB drive in Mac Pro I have Windows 7 and Windows 8.

Before installing W8 Pro 64, I ran the upgrade assistant against C:\W 7 Pro, created an ISO & either installed it as upgrade to D:\W 8 Pro RP (the free release preview) or I installed it after formatting D: (using the $39.99 ISO in either case).

If it is impossible to upgrade from release preview to $39.99 (with Media Center to play DVDs & TV etc.) then I did a non update install.

I do not remember but this says you can not upgrade RP.

And everywhere else it says that the $39.99 purchase is upgrade only.

So I'm scratching my head wondering how I did what is done.

Yesterday (last day) I decided to buy the cheap upgrade (from Windows 7 to Windows 8 pro).

First (everything under Boot Camp Windows 7) that system ckeck was made - then I bought it and downloaded it, but I haven't installed it yet (want to do this later, when Boot Campo is up-to-date).

Where can I find the (ISO?) download?

I just want to back it up in case something goes wrong with my HDD or something.

Or can I download it later again, if required?

When examining the "Download Windows" shortcut (appeared after the download on the Desktop) I found this over 2GB large C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WebSetup folder - is it just that folder which contains all Windows 8 data...? (which I want to backup)

I can't see it so post a screenshot of the folder content.

But the downloaded drivers are less than 2G and were downloaded in OSX (or should have been) and Windows 8 is more than 2G, so I doubt that this is what you want.

Of course - the Drivers-download for Boot Camp came via setup under OSX (The folder "WindowsSupport" with 671MB in my case.

The C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WebSetup folder (found after the Windows download under Windows) is about 2.3GB - maybe that's enough?

Sorry I can't post a screenshot at the moment (I'm not at that Mac) but you should be able to see that hidden folder if you check "show hidden files, folders, and drives" under Windows' folder options.

Or have you already installed Win 8? Then it might have been deleted after the installation.

Boot Camp is a disaster waiting to happen, I would never use it for anything important, untried or just plain new.

The Win 8 iso is 3.78GB

To post a screenshot:

Shift-Command 4, select the area you want and release the mouse button, on your desktop there will be a file named Screenshot, with a date. Post that here.

I'm aware of this. When I create an important file under Boot Camp/Windows I copy it immediately to a safe location. I'm using Boot Camp for some years now and never had bigger trouble (but with Parallels...).

You can't make a screenshot under OSX of that hidden folder directly, but I copied it (under Windows) to the Windows desktop and then made a screenshot under OSX:

I just bought the $40 W8 upgrade, and the assistant offered an option to create an ISO or put on USB flash drive. As was said before, since Bootcamp doesn't (yet) support W8, I chose the ISO. It let me choose where to save the ISO, and seemed to give me an option to burn a DVD, but that didn't work. However, I went to the ISO and burned the DVD from there using "Burn ISO to CD/DVD." It should work when the time comes...

I had no opportunity to create an ISO or put it on a USB drive.

Maybe there are different download versions?

Mine was bought on 31/01/2013 (from the UK for £24.99) and

"Seller of Record" (invoice) was "arvato distribution GmbH, Germany".

At the end of the invoice they wrote:

"To always have the software as physical backup media at hand,

order your personal backup DVD now." 😕
