Mac Mini Hard Drive Failure
Hello All,
I have mid 2010 Mac Mini that recently experienced an internal hard drive failure. I purchased a 32- GB WD Blue Scorpio Drive and formatted it (Mac OSX Journaled) before swapping it into the machine. The problem now is I am unable install Snow Leopard from the original grey DVD (10.6.3) or a retail DVD. Below are the steps that I have tried so far.
With the grey disc inserted, I reboot the machine holding the "C" key, the disc is ejected after about 15 seconds in the drive.
With the grey disc inserted, I reboot the machine holding the "Option" key, the disc is ejected after about 15 seconds in the drive.
With the SL retail disc inserted, I reboot the machine holding the "C" key, the disc is ejected after about 15 seconds in the drive.
With the SL retail disc inserted, I reboot the machine holding the "Option" key, the disc is ejected after about 15 seconds in the drive.
I have now determined that something is malfunctioning with the optical drive. So, I have now taken the retail copy of Snow Leopard and made a USB version of the installer following the instructions found here: http://www.maciverse.com/installing-snow-leopard-onto-an-external-hard-drive.htm l
With the SL USB drive connected to the machine, I restart the machine holding the "Option" key. I am able to see and select the USB installer, so I do. The screen goes to the Apple logo (grey) for about a minute, then I prompted to restart the machine. On restarting the machine, I am moved through the same cycle of restarting.
Does anyone know what could be going on? Is there anyway to install SL on a new internal hard drive from an exeternal drive?? Can I make an USB copy of the restore CD (grey disc)???
Thank you.
