Daisy chain two display port monitors (Dell U2913WM) to new Mac mini Thunderbolt?

Everything I read said that I could hook up a display port monitor to a Thunderbolt port on the mac mini. I purchased two display port monitors (Dell U2913WM) that can be daisy chained, and hooked them up. All I get is mirroring. Does anyone know how to turn off mirroring with this setup? I did not get the "uncheck mirroring" option in preferences until I hooked up the second via the HDMI port instead of a daisy chain. The problem with that is, I cannot take advantage of the full resolution through the HDMI. It seems I have wasted my money on two monitors.

Looking for advice on:

1) How to daisy chain these two Dell monitors to the mac mini and turn off mirroring and use an extended desktop, or

2) How to take advantage of the full resolution through HDMI port?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Agree it seems to be a driver issue. One thing I'll point out is that Apple has not updated their fancy Thunderbolt Display in 4 years which makes it even more frustrating that they wont update this driver. I'm not a developer but I wonder if this type of issue could be solved with a 3rd party app As Mac OS X is open source. I would pay $10 for a driver/app just to unlock this feature and would conspider paying more if someone wrote an app that had other functionally.

If anyone at Apple is listening it would be nice to get some insight or confirmation on the status of support for Daisy chaining via DisplayPort 1.2 with 3rd party Hardware.

Alternatively, it would be great to get soone from the display port alliance to weigh in on this thread as a previous user made an interesting point that Apple's current implementation of Display port (on the latest release of Mac OS X 10.10 and brand new Mat Book Pro Hardware) is not a full implementation of the technical specifications.

"...this driver." Correct me if I'm wrong, but there isn't one driver that works for every monitor is there? Just like on Windows, you get a specific driver for the specific monitor. You don't download one driver (on Windows) and every monitor for Dell, Samsung etc. is able to daisy chain.

So if I'm right, then Apple would have to work with all the monitor companies to make each monitor work with daisy chaining via DisplayPort 1.2. Just like the monitor companies had to write a driver for each specific monitor on Windows.

I'm not sure that Apple would need to implement this in the display driver for each monitor. This because MST and Daisy chaining is part of the Display Port specification and not a specific feature of some displays, so it *should* be something that you would not put in a specific driver. But things that read *should* are not always programmed in the way you would like people to do it. So yes it might be that Apple needs to change the driver for each MST / Daisy Chaining capable monitor, but I hope not.

Ive been following this thread for the last few days. I have a late 2015 5k iMac with the upgraded (m395x) graphics. Currently I have 2 U2415 Dell monitors each connected to its own thunderbolt port (which works great), but in the pursuit of more pixels id like to daisy chain of each U2415 adding 2 more of the same displays, essentially driving two U2415 monitors per thunderbolt port.

Is this possible? does it work in bootcamp only? does it work with only some TB/mDPcables ? will apple unlock that st bernadino iphone? your guess is as good as mine, but i will give it my best shot in the next few days. I will also be testing different mDP and TB cables, from apple, belkin, cable matters, OWC.

If it turns out that this is 'by design' not implemented by apple, I will be very disappointed. Whats next? only apple flash drives work on apple computers because apple cant guarantee other brands will work?. We have standards for a reason.

I own a late 2015 MacBook Pro with 370x graphics card and two Dell U2515H monitors. The only way that I can use both monitors is to connect my Mac to Monitor1 (M1) using mDP/Thunderbolt to DP and M2 to my Mac using HDMI.

I don't understand why I need to connect a separate HDMI cable. When I come home I only want to plug in the mDP/Thunderbolt cable and the USB cable. I don't want to plug in a 3rd cable every time I use my computer at home.

I'm 100% sure that this will only work in bootcamp. OS X does not support daisy chaining displayport displays. At least, it will work with hardware that supports MST, so any hardware listed here as MST capable: Use 4K displays and Ultra HD TVs with your Mac - Apple Support

And seems your hardware supports it:

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014 and later)

But I'm not 100% sure it will work for all 4 monitors:

If you use a 60Hz MST display with the MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) or iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014), only one additional Thunderbolt display is supported.

There is a chance it will work since you say that you have a late 2015 iMac, and they only state this limitation for the late 2014 model.

Hi guys!

Cheers from Argentina.

Just bought a second Dell 2913 to also Daisy-chain to my previous and that's already connected to my Macbook Air mid-2013.

I understand it's not possible to Daisy chain the two monitors.

What is not clear to me is if it's possible to connect one via thunderbolt and the other via USB with a usb adaptor to Display-port.

Is this possible? I want individual screens, not mirrored.

Any accesory recommended?

Thanks in advance!

Ale

Yes, that's fine to use mDP for one and USB/DP for the 2nd. The USB-connected display might experience some lag that would be more evident in things like video but should work well for normal productivity apps.

Be sure the USB adapter you choose is compatible with OS X El Capitan. OS compatibility with USB display adapters has been a problem in the past after OS X updates so be sure to verify with the manufacturer that their drivers support new OS X updates before you install the updates.

Just wanted to chime in on this having bought two Dell U2717D monitors and wanting to daisy chain them off my Macbook Pro Mid 2014 retina.

It is not possible. 😟

However, the Macbook has two Displayport out ports and hooking each monitor up separately let's me spread my desktop out exactly as if they were daisy chained.

Good enough...

My MacBook Pro wants nothing to do with Daisy Chaining DisplayPort displays. I have two Dell U2715H's that I would like to use. OS X only sees one display and the two displays are mirrored on the MacBook Pro.

I hooked the monitors together using DisplayPort and had forgotten about it as I just had one set to displayport and one set to HDMI for my MBP use.

When I hooked up my Mac Pro (with a flashed R9 280x) using DisplayPort and HDMI, I could not for the life of me find my mail window. Turns out it was on a phantom third display. I was wondering about this so I disconnected the HDMI and OS X can see both displays!!! I can't see anything on the second display, but I feel I am one step closer to figuring out DisplayPort daisy chaining, at least on Mac Pro's with true DisplayPort (not Thunderbolt).
