MacBook Core 2 Duo - AST MRI Battery Thermal Diode 0 n/a

Having trouble charging/seeing a battery and not sure if the logic board is bad or the battery.

The laptop won't boot of the battery, but will off the ac charger. Once it's booted, you can run it off the battery alone.

AST MRI says there is a problem with the battery (to replace it, even though it's a new battery) but also one of the sensors isn't reading.

It's called the battery thermal diode 0 (zero): n/a.

Is this on the battery or on the logic board and would a bad battery cause a false negative?
