Is there any information as to when the iPad mini Smart Case will be available???
I have the Smart Cover but I am afraid there is not enough protection for the back or sides, just discovered a ding on the chrome ring around the screen! Not pleased at all!

Apple does not develop cases for any idevices. So you can search on the web to find the best one for you, as I did.

What do you mean Apple does not develop cases???? I have an iPad 2 with a genuine Apple Smart Case.& Smart Cover. I did not buy them from the internet but from an Apple store. Apple already has a Smart Cover for the iPad mini.
Instead of waiting for a smart case , I did some customisation, use a clear back cover plus the smart cover
or just get an invellopeipad mini smart case
I bought the ZooGue Prodigy case for my iPad Mini and it totally protects it. It was not cheap $50 but it has a really cool stand that allows different positions, kind of like a beach chair where you can lay it flat or 1/2 up, 3/4 down etc.
I just bought the Devicewear Detour. Wraparound case with both horizontal and vertical positions for iPad. All ports accessible. Nice elastic band to keep it closed. Very impressed.

Agd931 is right, Apple does make Smart Cases for the larger sized iPad. So this now makes two of us who want to know when the Smart Case for the iPad mini will be released. My Mini also has a few dings as the smart cover is now very protective.

Poetic makes a great smart cover and case for the iPad Mini. I've had mine for a while and love it. It's the Slimline Portfolio Case and it supports all the "smart cover" functions.
The Khomo iPad Mini Smart Case is a great less expensive smart case. No sense in over paying for Apple's when you can get the same thing for $15...
