Is all music in itunes store in MP4 format now? My MP3 player won't play that. No problems with previous buys (guess they were in MP3 format). What do I do now?

DRM-protected purchases from the iTunes store have an extension of M4P. Non-protected tracks have an exension of M4A. Both are AAC format, but the protected tracks will play only on Apple players and in iTunes. I didn't think Apple sold protected tracks any more; I thought everything was M4A @ 256 kbps. So if your player supports AAC, then those should play fine.

You won't be able to convert protected tracks to another format, such as MP3, through iTunes. You can, however, convert M4A tracks to MP3 through iTunes as the fiend suggested.

I'm not sure that's correct, they have always been in AAC format from the iTunes Store, although the bit rate has been increased.

Either convert your iTunes purchases to MP3 format, using iTunes, or if you only have an MP3 player but no iPod, buy MP3 songs from Amazon and other MP3/music sellers.
