Prevent the iphone 5 to ring or vibrate for any number out of my contact list

There is but it will take a little bit of work on your end. This how I did it.

1. Use Voice Memos to record 30 seconds of dead silence

2. Use a ringtone app to create a ringtone from the silence

I used > https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/best-ringtone-maker-free/id394897596?mt=8

3. Follow the instuctions to sync the ringtone to your device

4. Settings > Sounds > Ringtone > Set <your ringtone>. This is now the default

5. Same as #4 only change Vibration > None

6. Edit all your contacts to have different ringtones other then the default

That is correct and also the vibration settings. If not the contacts that you don't customize will be set to the default <silent> ringtone.

It may be a lot easier to leave the default ringtone as is, and individually change only the contacts you DON'T want to hear to the silent ringtone/no vibration settings.

If you really want to "block" ringing of ALL calls outside your contact list, then you have to set the silent ringtone as default for everyone, and individually set each contact for an audible ringtone+vibration. Hope you know EVERYONE already who you're willing to hear from....

Actually, I think you're lucky! The "others" still can leave voicemail and numbers will show on the recent call list.
