Canon 6D RAWs processed awfully bad?!

Hi,

I previously owned a Canon 400D and loved Aperture for the entire workflow, it was just a breeze. Now got a new Canon 6D and also took some test photos with the 5D mk3, and every Raw that I import just looks awfully dark and contrasty.

That is, for a moment they look nice, and then, when they're fully loaded, they turn dark and contrasty.

I thought something would be wrong with the cameras, but opened up some of the pictures in lightroom or in Photoshop, using the adobe raw processor, and there, everything looks nice.

I never knew that the aperture raw processing was so bad, not just with colors, but also with noise reduction for example. Am I doing anything wrong, maybe with some secret color space setting or so (cam is set to sRGB), or are the raw profiles in aperture for these new cameras just not implemented properly yet?

what is going on?? I seriously what have never expected such an enormous impact on image quality by the software, especially since I thought Aperture was a Pro-tool. Look at the sharpness of the images!!

HTP is indeed off. I only cranked the shadows up to 60 for the screen shot--otherwise it's hard to see the problem in a screen shot. The half-tone effect, noise and loss of detail is all visible on screen without any bump up in the shadows. My goal here wasn't to get full detail in the shadows, otherwise I would have gone HDR. But the fact is that full detail is actually there and both Lightroon and Canon's DPP software readily show it. Aperture doesn't.

Interesting to see others' views. I have a 6D too; I've also been an Aperture fan for many years, but am currently making the switch to Lightroom for all the reasons described here. I miss Aperture's organizational features, and its easy integration with all things Apple, but it was just not doing justice to my photos. I'm currently duplicating everything -- an Apple library and a Lightroom catalog -- hoping that Aperture will step up in version 4, but I can't do this forever.

I have this problem also with RAW & Canon6D. in fact I changed from Fuji to Canon because Fuji RAW was no longer supported by Aperture.

The pictures are very dark - several stops in fact.

BUT - I now import into the Canon software utility with updated software for the lens type & them import them into Aperture.

Haven't downloaded El Capitan yet - as I hear my Gmail & FileMakerPro will also have problems. Ray
