Seeing as nobody's replying...

My (now returned) 15" made a 'tick' when I raised the screen as far as it could go, I isolated it to one side and came to the conclusion that is was the grey plastic outer bezel on the bottom edge of the screen coming into contact with the lower frame.

Just one of these niggly things really, I suppose I could have partially disassembled and try to re-seat the bezel, but it was going back anyway.

It may simply vanish in time as your book gets more use and 'broken in' as it were.

Apple's DO NOT do these sort of things. There are lubrication kits on the market that may help, but maybe you are overstating the problem. Call AppleCare and see if they Care. If they do, they can perhaps replace this stress point before it causes damage to the case or hinges. Again, ask yourself, "Am I imaginging these things? Apples don't have engineering problems."

How dare you state with utmost confidence that "Apple's do not do these things", when you can clearly see that the two previous posters (and myself) suffer from this very problem.

I have gone through 6 macbooks and macbookpros, every single one has had the unbearable whine, and 4 out of the six have had "engineering problems".

Such a display of ignorance is completely useless to those suffering defects. I know what it feels like to be told that I am "overstating" or "imagining" the problem, and let me tell you, it is one of the most frustrating things imaginable.
