@woodenearth: probably dude you are right ... software must do something on this.. hardware is not probably the root cause of the problem..when iOS 5.1.1 arrive i don't heared any someone calling attention for network problem . thats why ifreezer it not realy advisable to work for it... we might put in risk in we do putting our iphone (wi-fi gray out) inside the freezer... we might damage some microchip in our device....

Except for the fact that the "WiFi greyed out" problem has been reported by a few users after every upgrade that has ever been issued for 5 years (and also in every iPhone model from the original through the iPhone 5), so it can't be just a 6.1 defect. It's either a defect that has been in every version of iOS since 1.1, or there is a different explanation. One explanation that I have seen is that the chip is stressed during the upgrade process, so a marginal chip might fail. Another is that there is data corruption caused by an upgrade which affects the WiFi functionality. In this case a restore as new will fix it (and sometimes does).

Okay, I actually put my phone in the freezer and restarted when it was cold. The Wifi came back and worked!!! Then over the following week, whenever the wifi din't work I would put it in the freezer for 3 minutes or so and it woud work. However, it is getting worse and only working for a minute or two after I take it out!! Can I change the wifi chip? Also, are the Bluetooth and the Wifi on the same chip, cause I've never had an issue with the Bluetooth... hmm what about a wifi antenna replacement?

replacement of wi-fi antenna maybe would not solve the issue dude... wi-fi technology is long time ago and there is no reason the w-fi chip would not be perfectly craft 😕 , anyway we are not the great engr. here as what apple inc got... thats why we must think about it before doing everything in our idevice or else next time we saw our iphone is in our trashcan... 😟... up to now.. we still here in line waiting for new iOS version...

oMG I have the fix!!!!! I tried the ziplock bag and freezer. I placed the phone in a ziplock bag after turning it off and i squeezed all the air out. I left it in the freezer for 45 min. The power was too low when it came out and I had to if it on and keep wiping off the ice/condensation. After a min it had enough juice. And I checked the wifi and it is no longer greyed out. I use the Internet so much it must have over heated a few weeks ago. I tried the reset 10 times and turned the phone off 10 times. We laughed when she put it I. The freezer thinking I had to go to ape and back it up on the cloud before filing an insurance claim. Not gonna do that now. Try the ziplock bag in a freezer. Fitzinseattle@hotmail.com on face book look me up if it works for you too and let me know. I hope it does. I'm still totally in awe that it worked
